On the Heels of Another Massacre, Texas Is Loosening Gun Laws

Mother Jones consistently does a great and thorough job covering the gun violence epidemic. In this article, Madison Pauly discusses how Texas - a state with some of the least restrictive gun violence laws in the country - has recently passed "a series of gun-friendly bills... that expand(s) the number of places gun owners can possess their weapons."

These bold actions taken in the wake of the mass shooting in El Paso fly in the face of the NRA rhetoric of “just enforce the gun laws we have.” Not only have many existing gun laws been rendered toothless, but the lobbying arm of the NRA - by their own admission - fights “real, real hard” to enact pro-gun legislation.

Examples of the new laws include reducing penalties for those who carry guns in places of worship, including churches, synagogues, and mosques, that ban firearms and making it no longer be a crime for Texans to carry handgun a without a license for a full week after natural disasters.
